Many people suffering from thyroid problems try to treat it the natural way. One reader had successfully tried out some medications for thyroid but opted to go the natural way instead. She posted a question to our Expert Panel on how best use natural remedies to counter thyroid problems. Here’s what the Expert Panel has to say:
Question: I just came off meds for my thyroid and went the natural way but I am struggling can you give me any help on what to do. I also suffer with anemia.
Hello. There are a few natural options that can help manage hyperthyroidism. The first is getting in some activity daily is always recommended. Getting moving – preferably outside where you can receive sunlight and that helpful Vitamin D, is always beneficial. Eating organic fruits and veggies can help. A serving of berries and raw greens such as broccoli, cabbage, kale or cauliflower every day can help decrease the amount of thyroid hormone produced. If you are not eating a diet full of fresh fruit and veggies, I do recommend a multivitamin such as the Buddha’s Herbs Complete Multivitamin for Adults. For your anemia, making sure you are increasing iron intake – preferably through lean red meats, spinach and beans. Adding a fruit or vegetable high in vitamin c, such as citrus or broccoli will help the iron absorption into the body much more efficiently.
